4 Field Expeditions: backpacking, backcountry skiing, rock climbing, and bikepacking
Capstone Experience: the program culminates in a participant led expedition in one of the four field expedition pursuits
Certification Courses: Wilderness First Responder, Mental Health First Aid, Bike Instructor Certification Program Ride Leader, AIARE Avalanche Safety Level 1
Speaker Series: throughout the program guest speakers from a variety of different fields come and share their story; during these close and personal conversations, participants have the opportunity to learn more about the abundance of career paths available in the outdoors.
Staff Training and Certification
Mike Adler- Director & Lead Field Instructor
Mike received a BS in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan. He has been a counselor, field instructor, assistant director, and director in both the Sanborn Western Camps summer camp program and the High Trails Outdoor Education Center school program. Additionally, Mike has been an instructor with the Colorado Outward Bound School and ski instructor at Crested Butte Mountain Resort.
He received a B.S. in Kinesiology from the University of Michigan and is certified as a Wilderness First Responder, AIARE Avalanche Safety Level 1, and ACI Top Rope Climbing Instructor.
Sarah Adler- Director & Lead Field Instructor
Sarah earned a B.A. in History at Kenyon College. She has been leading backpacking and mountaineering trips for over a decade for Overland Summers and the Colorado Outward Bound School. She's led courses in Alaska, Colorado, and internationally in Spain and Switzerland. Sarah worked as a ski instructor in Crested Butte for multiple winters. Sarah began teaching at the Colorado Outdoor Education Center's High Trails Outdoor Education Center in 2013, and took over as director of High Trails in 2017.
Her certifications include: Wilderness First Responder, AIARE Avalanche Safety Level 1, and AMGA Single Pitch Instructor.
